St Andrews athletes show their class at champs

St Andrews athletes excelled as a thousand junior athletes contested the Scottish Primary Schools Cross-Country Championships at Kirkcaldy High School.

With such large numbers each primary age group was split into two races with medals awarded for each race.

Having won the P6 girls (schools M-Z) title last year Anna Hedley representing Strathkinness Primary dominated the p7 race completing the one mile course in six minutes 02 seconds, eighteen seconds clear of Anya MacLean (High School of Glasgow).

Ruby Methven claimed individual bronze for St Andrews school Greyfriars in the P6 Girls (A-L) race timed at 6.39 behind Katie Simon (Gergask) 6.29 and Elis Marr (Beaconhurst) 6.30. George Watsons took the team title with Greyfriars 14th, Kinross 19th and Lawhead 22nd.

Katie Johnson (Prestonpans) was a runaway winner in the P6 girls (M-Z) race clocking 6.19. Isla Hedley (Strathkinness) finished a gallant fourth in 6.47 just two seconds shy of bronze.
