Syme is currently competing in a top class field at the South African Stroke Play Championship.

The signs are looking good for the golfing ace, who is sitting perched for a challenge, just a few strokes of the leading group.

Play was suspended for 70 minutes in the afternoon on Wednesday due to the threat of lightning and was called off after tea time due to failing light.

Syme will be aiming to pick up where he left off before the suspension of play after having carded a birdie in his first few holes as he chased down fellow Scot, leader Ewen Ferguson.

Ferguson is currently -15 with Syme -8.

The final round is played tomorrow (Friday).

The course record at Blue Valley Country Club took a double beating on Wednesday as South Africa’s Aubrey Beckley and 2015 Walker Cup hero Ferguson surged into the lead.

Marquette University graduate Brandon Cloete finished a stroke off the pace after successive rounds of 66 and shares third with Stuart Grehan from Ireland, who became the third player to better the course record at the impressive Gary Player championship layout.
