TAYPORT embark on the latest Scottish Junior Cup campaign tomorrow (Saturday).

The three times winners will play host to West Calder United, on the Canniepairt.

West Calder currently play in the South Division, effectively the third tier of the East Region set-up.

The Cauther won their opening league game, but have since conceded a total of 10 goals in defeats to Tranent and Fauldhouse.

West Calder’s previous two meetings with Tayport were both closer affairs.

Back in 2007, a Brian Craik double saw ‘Port record a 2-1 away win in a Scottish Junior Cup tie.

Six weeks later, a Ronnie Kenneth double and one from Reon Juskowiak gave the Canniepairt outfit a 3-2 win in the East of Scotland Cup.

All of the Tayport players who took part in that double-header have now left the club and the new crop will be looking to make their mark in the national competition.

There was disappointment in conceding a very late leveller away to Bathgate last week, but manager John McGlashan remains upbeat about his new-look squad.

“When a team scores an equaliser so late in the day, it does often feel like a defeat,” he said.

“For 10 minutes after the final whistle, I was still angry that we didn’t take all three points.

“However, after reflecting on the whole game, I realised that it was one of the best away performances, over the entire 90 minutes, since I came to Tayport.

“So, the frustration has given way to the many positives and the performance bodes very well for the future.”

Kick-off for the Scottish Cup tie on the Canniepairt is scheduled for 2.30pm and supporters should ‘phone the Tayport F.C. newsline, on 01382 552755, for the latest information.
