Top recognition for trail runners

Falkland Trail Runners have been voted a respectable third place overall in the Best Trail Race and Best Event Series categories of the 2016 Running Awards.

The annual awards are the UK’s highest recognition of excellence in running, principally because they are decided by votes placed by individual runners.

An initial vote produced a shortlist of the 12 nominees.

A second round of voting was then opened up, with runners able to vote a second time in each category

The winners were announced at The 2016 Running Awards at indigo at the O2 in London.

The main organisers for Falkland Trail Runners - Tony Martin and Brian Cruickshank said that they were “delighted” the club’s events had been recognised and ranked so highly against larger events.

In action this week, Zoey Johnston recorded a new PB in finishing third female in the Ravenscraig Park Mile Race in Kirkcaldy.

The FTR finishers were, 16 Colin Smith[5.52],17 Brian McLaren[5.53],23 Alex Jarrett[6.02],29 Kevin Murray[6.08],35 & 3F Zoey Johnston[6.15],50 Euan Taylor[6.47],51 Kenny Ritchie[6.48],59 Jim Close[7.13],75 Andrew Cargill[8.32].

The race was won by Fife AC’s Stuart Tite in 5.01.

Tony Gallagher represented the Falkland club in The Road to the Isles Halh Marathon finishing in 23rd place of the 50 finishers in 1 hour 55 minutes 11 seconds.

Club members were out and about at five different 5k parkruns on Saturday morning, results were, Edinburgh-73 Kevin Murray[21.04].Falkirk-Alan Sheret[26.39].Dunfermline-35 Leonard Zabek[24.32],53 & 7F Lynne Zabek[27.19]. Kirkcaldy-22Andy Harley[22.46],27 & 2F Susan Harley[23.05],34 Sandy Adam[24.05],121 Scott Fraser[39.06].

St Andrews-29 Colin Smith[21.35],69 Keith Bonthrone[24.00],80 Bill Gillan[24.34],103 Malcolm MacTavish[26.18],154 Susanne Lumsden[27.55],181 Karen Campbell[31.56].
