Trail runners head out despite stormy weather

Falkland Trail Runners have been active yet again this week with members participating in four events.

At the Tufty two mile Winter race series at Falkland Estate, covering two and a half laps around the trails of Scroggie Park and school playing fields, the torch lit runners battered against the wind and rain with Iain Thomson crossing the line first in 12 mins 40 seconds.

Susanne Lumsden was first female (sixth overall) in 14.23.

On Friday night, Chris Russell from Glenrothes organised the fourth Nightmare Race with 70 runners turning up on a cold wet and blustery night to cover the 3.5 mile course at St Andrews .

Starting at the car park close to the Old Course Links, the runners navigated their way past the Old Course and returned across the sands to the finish.

The Skwerlz took first place with Jonathan Peebles crossing the line in 20.56.

Brian Innes was third in 21.37. Susanne Lumsden finished 2nd female and 1st over 40 in 24.24. A further 12 club members completed the course

The weather was not much kinder at the local parkruns on Saturday, the St Andrews event at Craigtoun Park attracted an amazing 120 runners.

Brian Cruickshank was first FTR member home finishing fourth overall and first MV40 in 19.28.

At Kirkcaldy 5k Parkrun, Ben Hukins, ( Ron Hill Cambuslang/Leven Las Vegas) crossed the line first in 17 mins 19 secs.

The club’s Jog Scotland group, Get Fit Falkland has been boosted by the addition of a further four fully qualified jog leaders.

The club now boasts seven qualified leaders who will be working with the current group members and future participants.
