We want a Flying start to new year

AFTER a fantastic end to 2012, Fife Flyers are targeting a winning start to the new year.

Flyers made it seven points from the last eight with a dramatic last second overtime win over Edinburgh Capitals at Murrayfield on Hogmanay.

Now player-coach Todd Dutiaume is looking to build on the good form in a double-header against Braehead Clan, where back-to-back wins could take Fife to the top of the Gardiner Conference.

Dutiaume said: “These Braehead games are now even more important than they were before.

“Now we’re right behind them, and with a couple of games in hand, we want to go right after them.

“If we can get four points we’ll be sitting in a great position.”

Flyers are hopeful captain Casey Haines will shake off the ankle injury picked up against Edinburgh.

Dutiaume added: “His ankle has been bugging him for a while and he took a knock on it. Casey is a tough guy, but if he needs time off, he’ll get it.”

Flyers travel to Braehead on Saturday for a 7.00 p.m face-off. Sunday’s game at Fife Ice Arena begins at 6.30 p.m.
