THE NORTHERN League trophy is in the bag – now Fife Flyers’ sights are set on play-off silverware.

Flyers wrapped up the league championship with a 7-2 win over Blackburn on Saturday, and will have home advantage as the play-offs roll into Kirkcaldy this weekend.

Two semi-finals take place on Saturday with Whitley Warriors and Solway Sharks squaring up at 5 p.m, before Flyers face Sheffield Spartans at 8 p.m.

The winners of both games qualify for Sunday’s final (6.30 p.m) while the losers compete in a third/fourth place play-off at 11.30 a.m.

Despite winning the league, Fife player-coach Todd Dutiaume is concerned by the team’s recent form, which has saw them lose two and tie one of its last four games.

And he warned his team not to underestimate an improving Sheffield side.

He said: “I’ve told the players not to plan ahead to Sunday night because I expect Sheffield to take us right to the wire.

“We’ve lost points to all three teams this season, and Whitley are the team on form. It’s a wide-open weekend.”
