Youngsters bloom in the sun at New Williamfield

Having performed well in their first Kwikcricket tournament of the season at Perth the previous weekend it was a fairly confident Largo squad which travelled through to the delightful sunny New Williamfield, Stirling at the weekend.

The club’s youngsters were invited into the central belt to take part in the prestigious John Cooper Tournament and came up against some top opposition from across the country.

The squad of 12 youngsters, one of the 13 teams taking part, reached the semi-finals of the tournament.

And the locals played well, only losing in a dramatic two over play-off to eventual winners Stenhousemuir.

The team stormed back from any disappointment they may have felt to win the third place match against Arbroath.

A club spokesman told the Mail everyone associated with Largo was proud of the efforts of its young players.

In particular, the cricket group is pleased with the community involvement aspect of the club.

He said: “This was a first rate effort by the youngsters with everyone putting in a real effort, showing lots of skill, working as a team but primarily having fun.

“With Largo CC based at East Drive, Upper Largo it was fantastic to note that six of the squad live in the village and attend the local primary school.

“On Sunday the kwikcricketers are on the road again to play in the Moira Shaw Tournament at Lochlands home of Arbroath United CC.”
