Communities worldwide have their own quirks and sense of identity.
This offers them a uniqueness that they can represent and share proudly with visitors to their home. Many consider this the spice of life.
However, in east-central Scotland you may find this is actually the spice of Fife and it has its own unique flavour indeed.
We asked our readers “What is one thing you should NEVER say to someone from Fife?” and compiled their answers into this list.
So, if you plan on visiting ‘The Kingdom’ soon or happen to be passing through, here’s 12 things you should NEVER say to someone from Fife.

9. “I don’t like red pudding.”
Red pudding is a meat dish served at a lot of chip shops as an alternative to fish. It consists of bacon, beef, pork, stock, spices, and much more. It’s often associated with the east of Scotland but particularly with Fife. So, to avoid offending a local Fifer, mind your comments when discussing the delicacy. 10. “St Andrews is better than Fife!”
St Andrews IS Fife. You can’t say St Andrews is above Fife when St Andrews IS IN Fife. One person said to us: 'St Andrews - a piece of Fife that is forever England'. We'll offer no comment on that. Photo: DigiStu (via Getty Images Signature)

11. “The Fife accent is terrible!”
Here you, timeout! Maybe you feeling the need to make that comment is the thing that’s terrible? Something well known about Scotland is its massive diversity in accents, and how if you drive 5 miles in one direction you can encounter new accents totally different to those you last encountered. So, let’s have more pride and less (accent) prejudice. Photo: Steve Luker (via Getty Images Signature)
