Bee Parkinson (23) needed to raise £700 to achieve her dream of bringing her play, The Divine Comedy Show, to the stage.

The fundraiser was put on Kickstarter and reached the target before the end of the month, and Bee was stunned when it reached the target within 30 days.

“I just sat down and stared into space. My boyfriend, now my fiancee, asked if I was okay, but I was just spaced out,” Bee admitted. “You just don’t know how to react when it comes true.”

Bee had created the fundraiser with the aim of raising the money in 30 days. However, the full amount was reached days before the deadline.

“We were actually funded a few days before the end date. We had five or six days before the funraiser ended,” Bee explained.

With the play now fully funded, Bee is pressing on with bringing her work to the stage, which she hopes to have in front of audiences in January 2017.

“We were hoping to notify the successful auditioneees a couple of weeks after. Then we can start rehearsing on the 3rd of December.”

The funding will allow Bee to hire the space needed to cast, rehearse and run the production, as well as work with local artists on set design, visual art work and costume design.

The fundraiser was helped along by various incentives, including tickets and sneak peeks during rehearsals. Bee, who used to work in finance but wants to become a fully-fledged playwright, wrote the story when she was just 12.

“I actually wrote this story when I was 12 and I was staying with my grandparents when we moved house.

“I’m not really sure where the idea came from but I’d always had an active imagination and had always been interested in religion and things like that.”

The story, which has been re-named The Divine Comedy Show for the stage play adaptation, is focussed on good and evil, with a little mythology thrown in as well.

Auditions will take place on Saturday, October 22, at The Duchess in Kirkcaldy, between 12pm and 3pm.

Aspiring actors can book an auditioning spot through the play’s Facebook page.
