Alpine adventures in Switzerland for St Andrews Explorer Scouts

The scouts from 8th Fife St Andrews Explorer Scouts, joined by leaders and active support volunteers, will travel to Kanderstag in Switzerland next month,

The trip follows an intensive year of fundraising and preparation including training walks and camps.

Although pricey, tireless fundraising undertaken by the Explorers coupled with support by organisations such as St Andrews Rotary Club and Tokheim in Dundee, who sponsored and paid for all our hoodies for the trip, the group have been able to make this trip a reality.

So memorable was their first trip, leaders Pam Duncan, Charmaine Duthie and Cameron Whitelaws decided to build on the succes with a second trip to Kandersteg to return with the Explorers and give those that hadn’t been part of their initial trip, the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Swiss Alps and Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC).

The trip will allow Scouts from all over the world to meet at the international site which was founded in 1923 by Lord Baden Powell, Scouting Founder.

Over ten days the Scouts will take part in an overnight hike to an alpine hut, alpine walks, a trip to a glacial lake and many more jam packed, fun filled activities.

Charmaine Duthie, Explorer Scout leader said: “This trip has been a major undertaking for the Leaders but it gives us a great deal of satisfaction knowing our Explorers will embrace this once in a lifetime opportunity.

“KISC is a fantastic site offering fun, friendship and much, much more high up in the Swiss Alps. If last time is anything to go by our Explorers will come back exhilarated by the experience, wishing to return.”.
