Leven lights up for Christmas

This Saturday afternoon, November 26, sees the annual Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, organised by Leven Community Council, where the long, dark winter days in the high street and surrounding area will be illuminated in a blaze of colour.

As ever, the duty will be carried out by Leven’s Rose Queen, with the honour of pressing the ‘on’ switch this year falling to ex-St Agatha’s Primary School pupil Alisha Auchterlonie.

There will be plenty to see and do throughout the day, with the Master of Ceremonies’ role being filled once again by Leven Community Council secretary, Glenn Allan.

Music traditionally plays a big part in the entertainment leading up to the switch on, and 2016 will be no exception.

At the north end of the high street, outside the Caledonian Hotel, the Mary Bradford Singers are due to perform, along with Foster For Fife, a choir who will be delivering a mixture of festive and contemporary songs – including one they devised themselves, entitled ‘Help A Child Along’.

Another singer-guitarist was being lined up as we went to press.

Methilhill Community Pipe Band is set to lead the parade along the high street, ahead of the switching-on ceremony, which is at 4.30pm.

There will be a number of stalls along the high street, where you can pick up that special gift for Christmas, as well as other attractions including Santa’s Grotto.
