Musicians set for Fife’s Sunday Sessions finale after raising over £3000 for good causes

A group of Fife musicians have helped raise more than £3000 for local good causes during lockdown.

The Fife’s Sunday Sessions group on Facebook was set up by Kirkcaldy singer Gav Patrick and sees well known faces from the local live music scene share performances on a Sunday from 12.30-9pm.

Since launching, the page now has almost 22,000 members.

Gav (30), a previous winner of the Fife Free Press’ Voice of Fife competition, explained: “Myself and my wife Michelle created the group on Facebook to try and get a structure so all the acts were sharing videos in one place rather than people doing their own thing and posting videos on different pages and on top of each other.

“The whole reason behind Sunday Sessions was just to give something back to the community.

“They have supported me and the rest of the singers for years in the local pubs and clubs. It was to give something back but also to give something to look forward to each week.

“We have people tuning in from all around the world.

“I didn’t expect it to get as big when we started. I would have been happy to have 100 people watching, but last Sunday 1200 people tuned in.

“To be able to give people a smile on a Sunday by doing what we love is absolutely phenomenal.

“A company called CR Vinyl in Kennoway designed a t-shirt for us and we put them on sale. We’ve sold over 700 t-shirts and the profits have raised £3000.

“They will be on sale one more time this Sunday during our last session. Because we’re starting to get back to normal this weekend will be our last one.”

Among the organisations to have received a share of the cash are foodbanks in Thornton, Leven, Cowdenbeath, Benarty; Denend Primary and Lochgelly and Queen Anne high schools, Scoonie House care home, Kennoway Community Shed, Alzheimers Scotland, Lochgelly Gala and Cardenden play park.

“That’s just to name a few,” Gav said. “We’re quite fortunate we can maintain a steady lifestyle throughout this, so we’re just giving back to people that need it most.”

Those musicians who have been entertaining audiences online throughout lockdown include Ian Clark, Ryan McGuinness, Pamela Davie, Carly Schiavone, Jimmy Jack, ViceVersa, Hodgies Disco and Steph Gilmour.

With the final Sunday Session taking place this weekend from 12.30pm, Gav said: “We want to say a massive thank you to everyone that’s tuned in each week. The support throughout this horrible time has been outstanding.

“It will be an emotional farewell on Sunday, but it’s more ‘see you soon’.

“We are planning to have a big live gig at Warout Stadium in Glenrothes in due course and all the acts can’t wait to see everyone back in the pubs and clubs when we’re physically able to.

“We are doing what comes naturally to us and what we enjoy and to see that it gives so much happiness to people is incredible. I’m so proud of what we have achieved.”
