Award sounds like good newsfor autism group

Autism Rocks (Fife), the Buckhaven-based group which offers a wide assortment of help to families affected by autism, collected the Community Venture accolade last week at the Forth FM Awards.

The ceremony, at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, recognsises people and groups in the community who make a difference, as well as some of the biggest names in music and entertainment.

Liza Quin, chairman and co-founder of Autism Rocks (Fife), explained: “Our centre brings families together, raises awareness and educates on autism, also improving a child’s quality of life, bringing them out socially.

“We received a phenomenal amount of votes from the public and our members, and can’t thank everyone enough for their support .

“It’s what these people who voted for us said about us that means so much.”

Lisa said the group regularly sought funding from various sources in the hope of taking its services in other directions. It hoped in future to secure transport and mobile sensory equipment.

“After the new year, we are looking to add two other groups in addition to our drop- in, and teen and adult group,” she added. “We now support over 1180 families from all over Fife and that continues to grow.”

Surprise performances by Simple Minds and Paul Young were among the highlights of last Wednesday’s event.
