Burntisland gran transforms garden into winter wonderland

Heather Leuchars of 11 Geds Mill Close on the former Alcan site in the town, decided to open her festive workshop, which she has created in a summerhouse in her garden, to children in Burntisland and further afield to raise money for our Maggie’s Centre.

And it is proving a big attraction, with youngsters keen to visit and post their letter to Santa.

The garden and summerhouse have been transformed into a winter wonderland workshop for the elves, with lots of trees, lights, teddy bears, toys, books parcels and fairies.

“The idea started about two years ago when my three grandsons came down from Aberdeen for a visit,” explained Heather.

“I had not long moved into my house and didn’t want to clutter it up with Christmas decorations, so I just had a tree inside. I decided instead to decorate the summerhouse so they had somewhere to visit with all the lights and decorations and they loved it, so that’s why I decided to do it again this year and I thought it would be nice if the donations could go to the Maggie’s Centre.

“I lost my husband to cancer 11 years ago and that was just at the time they were starting to build the centre in Kirkcaldy. I know some of my friends have used it and they have really benefited from it, so that’s where the proceeds from the visits will go.”

Heather’s Elves’ Workshop will be open to visitors on November 25 and 26 and again on December 3 and 4 from 5.30-7.30pm in the back garden of her home.

Heather said: “The children love it and the parents seem quite taken by it too!”
