Burntisland set for Civic Week celebrations

It marks the start of a 10 day programme of events that are there for the whole community and visitors to enjoy.

Saturday’s parade has a ‘four seasons’ theme, but organisers will be hoping that the weather doesn’t deliver four seasons in one day as the celebrations take place.

And the committee hope everyone will come along, show their support for the event and have a great time.

The pipe band will lead the parade again this year.

The crowning of Summer King Lucas Brown, and Queen Sophie Paterson, takes place in Burntisland Parish Church at 12.30pm.

The town’s Citizen of the Year, Carole-anne Crossan will do the honours, ahead of the procession from the church to the Links via the High Street.

The parade, which is due to start at 1pm, will be led by Burntisland Pipe Band and it’s a chance for community groups and individuals to get involved and show off their ‘four seasons’ fancy dress costumes.

The entertainment continues with a packed programme of fun and games planned on the Links from 1.15pm. There will be pony rides from Remus Equestrian; a display from Fife Falconry, stilt walkers and street performers, face painting and a variety of stalls from traders and community groups.

There will also be a display from the popular W3L Wrestlers and the Kingdom FM roadshow will be providing the music. Judging will also take place in this year’s fancy dress competition.

In the event of wet weather a limited number of events, including W3L Wrestling, the Kingdom FM roadshow, fancy dress judging and falconry display, will take place in the parish church halls.

And the civic week fun continues until Sunday, June 26.

Events planned include a five-a-side youth football tournament, Praise on the Links, heritage walks and the civic week quiz.

Sports organisations including the bowling, sailing and swimming clubs will be hosting competitions and there’s also a chance for local musicians to take part in an open mic night.

Dominoes, pool and darts competitions will take place during the next week alongside a dinner at Food for Thought and a family party night in aid of Cancer ResearchUK.

The family beach day, which includes a sandcastle competition, treasure hunt, dog show and raft race will be held on Saturday, June 25.

On the final day there are kids cycle and rugby taster sessions as well as live music from Des and the Dingoes.
