Following significantly high demand, public tours for groups of 12 will be held on Saturday, December 17 and Sunday, December 18 from 9.45am to 9.15pm.

The initial tours were held to commemorate the theatre’s 112th anniversary, as the Kings Theatre Kirkcaldy first opened its doors on Monday, November 14 1904.

Members of the public were granted access to the old theatre venue on the anniversary for the first time since the building closed as the ABC Cinema in December 2000.

The tours were led by volunteers Dave Clark and Stephen Barbour; a pair who have come to be known locally as “The Kings Beards” due to their prominent facial hair.

Stephen said: “The first tours were a great success.

“Everybody left the building with their eyes opened not only to the past and the amazing things that have happened here but with a clear vision of the future.

“Having the opportunity to show the public things that have been unseen for almost 80 years was an absolute privilege. Everybody seemed very excited by it.

“I cannot wait to the next set of tours in December for more people to see this amazing building and its future.”

Tour guest Jenni Smith enjoyed the experience.

“It brought back so many memories of the old ABC Cinema,” she said.

“The organisers had a great knowledge of the building and were able to answer all of our questions. I can’t wait to see it transform into a 2000 capacity venue!”

The November tours were very quickly fully booked prior to the event, and organisers are again expecting demand to be very high.
