Civic Week parade a success, but the fun continues in Burntisland

The weather remained dry as the parade made its way from the town’s parish church to the Links following a special crowning ceremony of this year’s Summer King Lucas Brown and Queen Sophie Paterson.

Citizen of the Year Carole-Anne Crossan had the honour of crowning the youngsters.

The 2016 theme was the four seasons and locals all took it to heart, with a great number turning out in fancy dress for the occasion.

The parade was led by Burntisland Pipe Band, with a special four seasons monster helping to lead the way. Following the procession there was an afternoon of fun to be had for the whole family.

Among the entertainment was the Kingdom FM roadshow, the W3L Wrestlers, pony rides from Remus Equesrian and falconry displays.

The winners of this year’s fancy dress competition were also announced, with Burntisland Playgroup winning the best group prize for their winter wonderland theme.

Jenny Ashcroft won the adult category, while twins Lucy and Jade Moller won the primary school age category. Jamieson Johnston was runner up and there was a special mention for Kamila Lobiskova and her ‘raining cats and dogs’ costume.

Morna Beuzeval, chairman of the civic week committee, said: “We had a fantastic time on Saturday and we loved the civic week parade. The costumes were fantastic. We hope people will continue to support the remaining events and the weather stays dry for the beach day.”

Parade day may be over for another year, but the civic week events for 2016 are continuing. The programme of events runs until Sunday.

Among the events still to take place are a heritage walk, family party night in aid of Cancer Research UK and a pool competition.

And there’s also a very special family beach day taking place this Saturday, supported by Arnold Clark.

The free event will see a sand castle competition and a treasure hunt at the beach.

There will also be a dog show on the Links at 2pm, organised by Puss & Butch pet shop. There’s still a chance to enter your pet, by visiting the High Street shop by tomorrow (Friday).

And returning after almost 20 years, will be a raft race across the bay. Everyone is invited to assemble a crew, build a raft and take to the water.
