Colourful carnival fun in Kinghorn

Dozens of participants dressed in brilliant carnival-themed costumes and accompanied by Methil Pipe Band danced through the streets of the royal burgh to the beat of Brazilian Samba tunes, marking the end of a week of celebrations.

The joyful parade was followed by a sports day at Kinghorn Community Centre and the Gala Party Night featuring performances from the Joy Aitken Highland Dancers, Lucy Ailtken Tappers and NRG street dancers.

Kinghorn Gala Week kicked off last weekend with the crowning ceremony when Queen Ailidh Rutherford and King Aidan Cullinane accompanied by attendants Marley Feenie and Oliver Thompson were crowned in Kinghorn Parish Church in a ceremony conducted by minister Jim Reid.

Mary Tulloch, a well known local resident was presented with the John McLeod shield in recognition of outstanding service to Kinghorn Children’s Gala.

The crowning was followed by a Family Fun Day with carnival games and inflatables.

Throughout the week there were lots of activities including fun on the beach with over 70 children taking part in a scavenger hunt, sandcastle competitions, beach rounders and a barbecue.

Elaine Moncur, chairman of the Gala committee, said: “It’s been a fantastic week and great to see so many children enjoying events from the kite festival to the parade and party night.

“I would like to thank the committee for their tremendous efforts and all the local groups and businesses who make it happen in true community spirit.”
