Display set to go with a bang thanks to further Council cash

Fife Council find extra funding to help the Glenrothes fireworks display.

It had looked increasingly likely that the free attraction, one of the biggest annual public events held in Glenrothes, was to be significantly scaled down after the council offered £5000 towards the costs of staging this year’s display.

The previous year it had saved the event from being cancelled with £15,000 of emergency funding, but had vowed that the public, businesses and local community organisations would have to play a great er role if the long-standing event was to have a future

Now the council have committed a further £3000 from its community events budget to bolster the event.

Now with £1400 left from 2015, and £500 committed by North Glenrothes Community Council, the display has been significantly strengthened.

Go Glenrothes were approached to donate £3000 but instead also committed £500.

Norman Laird, Glenrothes area manager welcomed the news, but warned that the public would need to a make a greater contribution if the display was to survive.

“This event in future will be highly dependent upon increasing voluntary support or sponsorship,” said Mr Laird.

“Those groups who have made a contribution this year are to be commended and the voluntary effort by volunteers to make this event a success are greatly appreciated.”

The display takes place at Gilvenbank Park, Glenrothes on November 4, from 7pm.
