AGENDA, Scoonie Road, Leven
The arrival of Agenda nine years ago finally gave Leven something it had been sorely lacking for so, so long.
A good place in which to enjoy a proper meal.
That’s not to denigrate other local establishments serving food, but the town really had been crying out for a proper restaurant.
It changed hands around five years ago, with Lee Murray taking custody, but the standard has remained just as high.
As a fairly regular customer, I knew we wouldn’t be disappointed on our most recent visit.
Agenda offers a nice, comfortable setting with polite, attentive staff – and the food is always good.
The background music – audible but, crucially, not overpowering – also offered some fine selections. You can never go wrong with a bit of Talking Heads.
I must admit, I went for standard favourite dishes rather than being adventurous, but I knew reliability would enhance the experience even more.
While my dining partner opted out of the starter selection, I went for the trusty potato skins, deviating slightly from my standard cheese filling in favour of beef chilli.
And there were some healthy salady bits too. Superb.
Main course consisted of fillet steak – slightly more rare than medium – with delicious mushrooms and chips, while my other half favoured the shank of lamb.
Over a couple of Fumble At The Bar cocktails, she enthused about the vegetables, which were fresh, not frozen, and declared everything was “cooked to perfection”.
For dessert, I would normally go for a tall, towering glass of strawberry sauce with a tiny dollop of vanilla ice cream floating in it.
But, on this occasion, the sorbets looked very tempting.
I opted for the strawberry, which was superb, and I’m sure the lemon and mango would have been delicious too.
The better half selected the St Clements sponge, and was not disappointed.
Agenda’s tagline for a while was ‘Put us on yours’ – and that’s still sound advice if you want a nice, pleasant meal out.
There’s certainly nothing hidden about Agenda’s appeal.
