'˜Exquisite Corpse' exhibition at St Andrews Museum

Entry to the free exhibition, titled ‘Exquisite Corpse’, is open now.

The display is curated by council members Katharine Aarrestad and Paul Charlton and presents work by established artists from across Scotland who are members of the Society.

The results are a mixture of sculpture, painting, drawing and film.

Gayle Nelson, SSA president, said: “This is the first time that the Society has exhibited in north-east Fife and we have enjoyed working with ON at Fife Cultural Trust to present some of the strongest contemporary artists working in Scotland today.”

The exhibition brief sent to the artists was created from an ‘Exquisite Corpse’ game using text created with the cut-up technique inspired by such luminaries as William S. Burroughs and David Bowie as a starting point.

Curator Katharine Aarrestad said: “I am delighted to have been involved in curating this exhibition for the SSA in St Andrews. We hoped our concept was curious, a bit dark and playful yet open and reflexive enough to be interpreted freely. We had worried that we may have ‘weirded out’ many artists but we need not have been concerned, the SSA members rose to the challenge.”
