Fife nurse Christine scoops national award

Christine Malkison, a support nurse with the Over 65 Community Psychiatric Nursing Service at Whyteman’s Brae Hospital in Kirkcaldy, swept aside competitiors to win the Support Worker Award at the Scottish Health Awards, held in Edinburgh.

Christine received the prestigious award for the positive impact she has on her elderly patients; her natural ability to establish a rapport with those that she comes into contact with; along with her warm, cheerful manner and the reassurance she offers to her colleagues, patients and their families.

Paul Hawkins, NHS Fife chief executive, said: “I am delighted to see Christine’s considerable contribution to patient care in Fife recognised in this manner.

“Christine is a very deserving recipient of this award having shown a real drive to develop and enhance the care offered to older people in Fife. Our staff regularly go above and beyond to provide the best possible care and Christine is an excellent example of this.”

Every year, the Scottish Health Awards recognise and reward the dedicated NHS staff, support workers, volunteers and specialist teams who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care.

NHS Fife’s Be Active Eat Healthy Stay Together (BEST) team narrowly missed out on the Healthier Lifestyle Award for its work alongside Fife Sport and Leisure Trust to tackle childhood obesity.
