Fife's first arts and crafts trail unveiled

Featuring over 100 galleries, shops, studios and workspaces, the Fife Art and Craft Map gives locals and visitors a taster of the hundreds of creative artists working in Fife.

The publication highlights the diversity of work in the Kingdom including jewellery, ceramics, paint, glass, print and textile. And regular ‘Open Studios’ events throughout the Kingdom provide an opportunity to see work from many of the area’s local artists and craft workers.

Councillor Lesley Laird, executive spokesperson for Economy and Planning, said: “Tourism is a major economic driver and employer in Fife. Income from our tourism sector has more than doubled since 2008 – a fantastic achievement which shows how important this sector is to the area.

“It’s fantastic to see so much enthusiasm for local arts and crafts with open studio events showcasing local artists’ work and attracting large numbers of visitors. Innovation is crucial to keep driving this important sector forward and I welcome this new development of an arts and crafts trail which can only add further value to Fife’s tourism.”

The Fife Art and Craft Map, published by The List, is a joint venture by the Fife Tourism Partnership, Fife Council, Fife Cultural Trust and Fife Contemporary Arts.

Alistair Bruce, chairman of the Fife Tourism Partnership, said: “This is an exciting addition to the range of other attractions for visitors to Fife. I’m pleased that this joint venture recognises how important the arts and craft sector is to tourism and business growth. I’m sure that our success last year reaching millions of people with media coverage and blogs about Fife’s food scene can be extended to highlight our flourishing arts and crafts.”

Sandra Montador-Stewart, service manager for Economy, Tourism and Town Centres at Fife Council, said: “We are very grateful to Fife Contemporary Arts and Fife Cultural Trust for their help in bringing the brochure to fruition. Arts and crafts in Fife is a vibrant sector and the brochure is another important way to boost visitor numbers and business in the area.”
