In fine voice for East Neuk Fest choir
Seventy singers of all ages from Waid Academy, St Andrews Chorus and Anstruther Philharmonic gathered together for the first time over the weekend to begin preparations for their performance at this year's East Neuk Festival.
The major choral work, entitled ‘Memorial Ground’ has been devised by world-renowned composer David Lang to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, and will premiere on July 2.
At Sunday’s workshop the singers joined with members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus, under the direction of their chorus master Gregory Batsleer.
This continues a tradition by the festival organisers to commission an important new work that positively involves the local community.
The world premiere, which will also involve the celebrated Theatre of Voices ensemble directed by Paul Hillier as well as the SCO Chorus, will take place in Cambo Barn, one of the festival’s most atmospheric and acoustically alive venues. For tickets, go to www.eastneukfestival.com.
