Full steam ahead '¨for open day

Fife Heritage Railway held the first of a series of open days this year on Sunday.

The event was a quiet affair with minimal publicity to get it up and running, and those visiting were welcomed by all the group’s major stock out in the open.

Throughout the day all three locomotives were fired up and running along the tracks. River Eden was the mainstay running along the half mile of track with the shark in tow for passengers. The little Ruston, named North British, shunted all the wagons around and did some display running too, while the bigger Babcock loco, donated by Babcock at Rosyth, was also fired up and running for the first time at an open day.

The Norwegian coach, which is being transformed from a luggage van to a full passenger vehicle was also there.

A steady stream of visitors passed through the gates in good weather to enjoy the fun, and children were given a train book to encourage their interest.
