Fun for all at Burntisland Civic Week

With seasonal expectations high, it is hoped the sun will make an appearance for this year’s events, which run from June 17 to 26.

And in particular, dry weather is hoped for the colourful spectacle that is the annual civic week parade and fun day that takes place on Saturday, June 18.

Heading up the parade, which this year has a ‘four seasons’ theme, will be Burntisland Pipe Band, which will lead a procession from the town’s parish church through the High Street and onto the Links from 1pm.

As in previous years, the parade follows the crowning of the new Summer King and Queen – Lucas Brown and Sophie Patterson – at the church at 12.30pm.

And the fun continues throughout the afternoon on the Links with the Kingdom FM Roadshow, sponsored by LDL Gas, taking centre stage and performances from street entertainers and community groups including W3L Wrestling, Remus Equestrian pony rides and Fife Falconry Display.

There’s also a chance for locals and visitors to take part in the four seasons fancy dress competition and enjoy an afternoon of fun and games.

Morna Beuzeval, chairman of the civic week committee, said: “We are hoping that the summer solstice will look kindly on our parade and that we have a fabulous, sunny day.

“I am especially looking forward to the parade costumes and street entertainers, this year’s theme Four Seasons is a great choice.”

But with civic week running for 10 days, there’s a whole host of other events for people to get involved in too.

There will be live music, sport, family activities, the heritage exhibition, pub events and more on offer.

Alongside the parade day and party on the Links, another highlight looks set to be a new family beach day that will take place on June 25.

On the day there will be fun for everyone on the beach including a sand castle competition and a treasure hunt.

The dog show has already received a lot of interest, but there’s still time to enter your pooch and there will also be the first raft race in Burntisland in over 20 years!
