Glee for St Marie's in choir competition

The Kirkcaldy youngsters were voted top of the eight schools who had made it to the final of the competition at a sold-out Alhambra Theatre.

First and second runners up were Dunfermline’s St Margaret’s and Newcastle Primary from Glenrothes.

Host for the evening, which was organised by the Frisson Foundation, was Kingdom FM’s Ali McLaren with four judges casting an eye over proceedings drawn from the music industry and music teaching; David Beckett, Derek Walker, Bobby Mitchell and Seonaid Aitken, the latter also performing at the half way stage of the night.

All the show choirs performed the set song, One Republic’s ‘Love Runs out’ – which was ideal for stamping feet and clapping hands both on the stage and in the audience – then sang and danced to a track of their own choosing, with St Marie’s selecting the song ‘Get It Right’ which was written especially for the Glee television show.

At the end of the evening while the judges conducted their deliberations behind closed doors, young up-and-coming music star Caitlyn Vanbeck entertained the audience, before Provost of Fife Jim Leishman presented St Marie’s with the winners’ trophy.

Every child who performed on the stage also received a medal courtesy of sponsors Howe of Fife Rotary Club.
