Help bring Christmas to every Fife child

A quartet of Fife mums has stepped in to ensure that as many children as possible around Fife will wake up to a special gift this Christmas.

Kate Hope (36) from near Freuchie along with Hilary Haman, Sarah Brown and Charlotte Lever have just set up the Gift of Christmas Appeal Fife, which will co-ordinate a Fife-wide operation to collect thousands of new toys to be handed over to statutory and voluntary organisations around the Kingdom dealing with vulnerable families and those in need of a helping hand.

It is taking over where the Spirit of Christmas group left off last year, and is hoping its appeal will be just as successful as the previous venture was.

The new organisation, which is in the process of applying for charitable status, is asking people to donate a brand new toy or gift for children aged 0-16 years, and deliver them to one of a series of collection points around Fife.

And with the need for help growing every year, they are hoping to collect enough gifts for thousands of families this Christmas.

The appeal will kick off on November 1 when the collection points will go live, and will run until the first week in December after which the donations will all be collected by the four women for distribution to the local charities and groups including The Cottage Family Centre, Women’s Aid, Home-Start, Appaws for Autism and many more.

Collection points so far in Kirkcaldy include: Remax Estate Agents, 1A Whytescauseway; Nationwide, 131 High Street; Ceramic Tile Warehouse, Park Road and Changes Salon, 53 Meldrum Road.

Kate Hope, one of the organisers, explained: “I help run Freuchie playgroup and we donated to the Spirit of Christmas appeal last year. When I heard that it wasn’t running this year I thought it would be a shame for children to miss out, so I got together with some of the other mums and we decided to carry it on under a new name. Every child deserves to wake up to a gift on Christmas morning, and that’s what is behind this. We hope everyone who agrees with us can donate one or two gifts to ensure that this happens.”
