Twenty-five of the fibreglass creatures are currently on display in the shopping mall as part of the annual Great Glenrothes Hippo Parade.

This year’s event was launched last week.

Now in its sixth year the event sees youngsters from local schools and nurseries get involved by decorating a hippo.

This year’s theme for the parade is story book characters and it’s allowed the imagination of the children at the 15 primary schools and 10 nurseries taking part to run wild.

The decorated hippos will be on display for eight weeks, with visitors to the centre able to vote for their favourite design on the Kingdom Shopping Centre website or Facebook page, or by filling in a voting form from the customer service information desk before August 16.

The winning design will win £500 for the school or nursery.

Robert Winter, Kingdom Centre manager, told the Gazette: “The theme this year has really allowed everyone’s favourite stories to come to life.”
