Now in its sixth year, pupils at local schools and nurseries have once again been busy decorating fibreglass hippos and bringing them to life.

With the 2016 theme set as story book characters, the imagination of youngsters at the 15 primary schools and 10 nurseries has been running wild. Will there be a nod to Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday, or will everyone’s favourite wizard steal the limelight?

Robert Winter, manager at the Kingdom Shopping Centre, said: “I’ve had a sneak peek at some of this year’s designs and I must say it’s fantastic to see so many talented, creative youngsters taking part.

“The theme this year has really allowed everyone’s favourite stories to come to life and I can’t wait to showcase the hippos in the centre over the next eight weeks.”

The 25 decorated hippos will be on display for eight weeks, with visitors to the centre able to vote for their favourite design on the Kingdom Shopping Centre website or Facebook page, or by filling in a voting form from the customer service information desk before August 16.

The winning design will win £500 for the school or nursery.
