Ian McLeod work at Station Gallery

The display contains a wide spread of work from his time as a student until the present day.

Ian was born in Port Glasgow in 1939 where his father worked in the shipyards. The family moved to Burntisland when his father found work there. Ian followed in his footsteps when he became an apprentice welder in Burntisland shipyard in 1954.

He was encouraged by a fellow worker to further his interest in art and started going to night classes at Edinburgh College of Art. On the strength of his portfolio he was able to become an art student and graduated in 1965, having won several awards and travelling scholarships.

He then spent a year at a further education college to gain the Highers necessary for Moray House College of Education to qualify as a teacher. Here he met his future wife, Mary Rintoul. He went on to teach in various schools and colleges throughout Fife.

Ian is a prolific painter and was a Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists and elected member of the Glasgow League of Artists. In 1996 he became an elected member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. He has exhibited widely and his work is in many public and private collections.

The exhibition runs from July 2 until October 1 (or by appointment at other times, call 01592 891900), 10am – 4pm.
