Johnny Cash's daughter Rosanne to judge Go Glenrothes art competition

The competition, launched by Go Glenrothes – a new organisation set up to promote the Glenrothes area – will run this Friday and Saturday in the Kingdom Centre.

For its first year, the event is a drawing competition entitled ‘A portrait of Johnny’.

The Johnny in question is Mr Cash himself, who visited Fife back several times and discovered his roots lie around the Falkland area.

The competition will run in Lyon Square, where it launched back in February with the help of some local artists, and participants can submit their drawings between 9am and 5pm on both days.

And as well as cash prizes, the winner will have the honour of being chosen by Rosanne Cash, daughter of the country legend.

A Go Glenrothes spokesman said: “We are delighted that due to some early publicity we caught the attention of Johnny Cash’s daughter Rosanne who has been in touch to give this project her backing and has agreed to judge the top entries which will be sent to her electronically.

“We are also delighted to have attracted interest from internationally-renowned artist David Mach.”

David, originally from Methil, will be attending the event on Saturday and will choose the top six pieces which will then be sent Ms Cash.

The winner of the competition will receive a prize of £500, while the runners up will receive £200 and £100 respectively.

It is planned that this competition will be only one of a series of new events for Glenrothes and surrounding areas with the group’s sights firmly set on the town’s 70th anniversary in 2018.
