Landmark anniversary for floral art group

A Fife club is preparing to celebrate its diamond anniversary with an event at the Dean Park Hotel next weekend for its members.

Kirkcaldy Floral Art Club (KFAC) will mark its 60th anniversary with a demonstration and event for over 100 people.

Among the attendees for the sold out event will be one of the organisation’s oldest members, Vera Ferguson.

She has previously won accolades at the Chelsea Flower Show for Ikebana displays - the Japanese art of flower arrangement.

The cake which will be cut by Edith Williamson, and will have icing in a floral pattern designed by two of the group’s members.

Lilias Hoskins will be doing a demonstration on flower arranging and the affair will be presented by Pat Wilson.

The Scottish Association of Flowers Arrangement Societies have sent congratulations.

And the National Association of Flowers Arrangement Society have sent a card congratulating them on their 60 years in operation.

To look back over the club’s history, there will be a corner with photos and newspaper clippings (including from this publication) detailing the club’s history.

The KFAC formed in 1956 to “promote friendship through flowers”.

The celebration will take place in the hotel’s Kensington suite which Nan Kelly, chairman, said will provide a great chance for people to go outside, weather permitting, as it overlooks the garden.

Nan said there will be a ‘bling’ theme to tie in with the diamond anniversary, with those attending asked to join in the fun.

Over the decades, the group has taken part in several initiatives to brighten up the town and the lives of people living through the use of floral displays.

They were recently at the Morrisons supermarket on the Esplanade selling bouquets and raised £100 for charity Sue Ryder Care – something that has become an annual tradition.

On arrival, guests will be offered a glass of Prosecco as they proceed to enjoy a “posh afternoon tea”. The group will congregate for the celebration on Sunday, May 29, arriving at 3pm for a 3.30pm start.
