Visitors to Aberdour Castle, one of the oldest masonry castles in Scotland, took a step back in time at the weekend.

The castle, along with Historic Environment Scotland, hosted ‘Keys to the Castle,’ a 14th century re-enactment weekend, bringing to life a unique part of the historical landmark’s past when King Robert the Bruce gifted the castle to his nephew.

Thomas Randolph was granted the castle and lands in recognition of his contribution during the Wars of Independence.

Visitors had the chance to learn about life in medieval Scotland with displays of armoury and archery, calligraphy and cookery and even the chance to take part in some.
