Mike joins Rocky for boxing chat

The Fifer who has nurtured a number of champions in the Kingdom will turn his attention to the stars who don the gloves in movies as part of the 2016 film festival.

Mike will join Alan Morrison, director of the film festival, on stage to talk about the great boxing movies of all time straight after the theatre hosts a screening of one of the best – Rocky.

Sly Stallone’s classic movie dates from 1976.

Made on a budget of $1m it grossed over $225m at the box office, and made Stallone an A-list star.

Rocky tell’s the rags to riches story of Rocky Balboa, who goes from debt collecting for a loan shark to fighting to become the champion of the world.
Stallone’s film scooped the Oscars and rated as one of the best sports movies ever made.

After the mid-afternoon screening, Mike and Alan will take to the stage to talk about Hollywood’s depiction of the noble art – and the importance of Rocky.

Mike is also the founder, and head coach, of Kingdom Boxing Club in Kirkcaldy - and a highly regarded figure within the sport.

He founded the club in 1998 and has produced numerous district and Scottish champions, as well as giving many youngsters a chance to learn the disciplines that come with the sport.
