And two local women are making the most of the attention it will bring to the burgh by staging a Scottish themed market.

Eunice Cameron, secretary of Dysart Community Council is working alongside Catherine McColl, owner of the Royal Hotel to stage the first ‘Outlandish Market’ with a variety of stalls offering traditional Scottish food and drink as well as wedding outfits, honey, jewellery, greetings cards and specially printed t-shirts.

There will also be alternative therapies from Mariette Lobo; palm readings from the Brahm Seer; Scottish dancing from the Saut Burgh Dancers and much more. Maps of Dysart with all its sites of interest marked on for visitors will also be available.

The women have been helped with the marketing of the event by councillor Marie Penman, a lecturer at Fife College, who has advised them on how to publicise and promote the event.

The market will be held in the Royal Hotel on Sunday, June 12 from 12.30-4pm, and stalls are still available for local shops or businesses wanting to take part.

Eunice explained: “Outlander is attracting huge audiences around the world who have just tuned in to the new series to see Dysart harbour transformed into the French port of Le Havre from 1744. People are travelling from all over to see where the programme is filmed, and there are lots in Fife, so we thought this would be a good idea to help put Dysart on the map.”

The market will be opened by Gilliebride Macmillan, the bard from the Outlander series who will perform some of his songs for visitors.

“We just want to do something to promote Dysart and give it a boost,” said Eunice.
