Scots directed Western is first Dreel screening of 2016

Screening on Sunday, January 17, Slow West is the highly-acclaimed indie western by north east Fife musician-turned-director John Maclean, and stars Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender.

The film follows 16-year-old Jay Cavendish, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, as he journeys across the American frontier in search of the woman he loves.

Joined by Silas (Fassbender), a mysterious traveller, the pair are hotly pursued by an outlaw along the way.

The film also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Caren Pistorius and Rory McCann.

It caught the attention of film critics when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year, where it was awarded the Sundance Institute’s World Cinema Jury Prize: Dramatic Winner

Director Maclean, who grew up in Tayport, studied drawing and painting at the Edinburgh College of Art, before heading to the The Royal College of Art in London.

He has worked with Michael Fassbender on a number of previous occasions, including Pitch Black Heist, for which Maclean won a Best Short Film BAFTA in 2012.

BAFTA also recognised the Scot as ‘A Brit to Watch’ last year.

The film screening of Slow West is a must-see and starts at 6.45pm at the Dreel Halls, Anstruther.

Tickets cost £4 (£2 under 18s) and are available on the door.
