Sing up if you want a place in a new Kirkcaldy choir

Sing in the City is preparing to launch the project in the Lang Toun following on from huge success experienced in the Edinburgh area and elsewhere in Fife.

The Dunfermline choir, which has 70 members and started in January 2015, played to a sold out Carnegie Hall last Friday.

And now those behind the project are looking to expand to Kirkcaldy for their ninth choir.

Sessions in Kirkcaldy will be held in St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Townsend Place, and they start on Monday, February 22.

Kirsty Baird, musical director of Sing in the City, told the Press: “Any adult can join with no audition process.

“They will learn songs from the 60s through to present day chart music, so there’s something for everyone.

“We have a massive social and charity side to Sing in the City.

“It’s a great way to make new friends and there are always plenty of events to take part in, if members choose.”

Although Sing in the City is run as a business, the choirs have raised over £47,000 for charity since it started in 2011.

Sing in the City currently has eight choirs, with around 500 members collectively, in Edinburgh, Musselburgh and Fife.

The concept was started back in 2010 by Kirsty and her fellow musical director Annette Hanley.

The pair are singer songwriters and musicians who are very passionate about music and Sing in the City.
