Organisers of the annual Gala Day, now in its fifth year, are asking the Kirkcaldy community to help provide a snazzy vehicle for the gala princesses.

A spokesman said: “This year we are appealing for some help with the event, as we are in need of a smart vehicle, to transport the Gala Princesses through the parade.

“We’d love to hear from anyone who may be able to help with a horse and cart, or vintage or classic car or something else equally suitable.”

The event on Saturday, August 20 is set to provide a wealth of entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Attractions this year include the gala street parade, quad bikes, climbing wall, face-painting, balloon modelling, beat the goalie, bouncy castle, children’s races, craft stalls and much more. The event kicks off at 11.45am with a street parade led by local councillors and the Gala Princesses, Jade Channon and Brooke Shearer of Fair Isle Primary School.

They will be escorted by local air cadets and others from Beauly Place to the gala site on Fair Isle Road, where they will declare the event open at 12pm accompanied by Cllr Neil Crooks.

A spokesman for the organising group said: “The event has grown to become a very popular and successful highlight in the local community.

“Over the past seven months there’s been lots of planning, and meticulous organising which an event like this needs and now we’re hoping for great weather and a day to remember.

“We’re indebted to everyone who is supporting this year’s big day.”

The event which is a partnership between the local organising group and Fife Council relies on support from local people, various organisations and businesses. Key sponsors this year include Charley’s Bar, Templehall Weight Lifting Club and The Fife Group.

Looking to next year’s event the organising group is also keen to attract new volunteers and committee members. Anyone wishing more information about the Gala should call 01592 583522.
