St Andrews night club staple The Lizard Lounge has closed
The Lizard Lounge, a night club in Hotel Ogstons on North Street, turned off its lights and closed indefinitely after a final Saturday night extravaganza.
Hotel management announced the club’s closure in preparation for a complete refurbishment – and one that will bring more relaxation than exaltation.

Hide AdOgstons are hoping to switch the focus from being a hotel with a night club to a luxury hotel, and ‘The Liz” will be transformed into a spa.
Fraser McLeod, manager said: “Adding a spa to the hotel is a natural step for Ogstons.
“The hotel is our main priority and we are excited to begin the renovations and to provide a higher standard of hospitality to our guests.
“We would like to thank all the patrons and club goers that have helped make the Lizard Lounge a success.”

Hide AdFraser also thanked Iain Menzies, the Lizard’s resident DJ for eight years and a well-known figure in the town.
Considered a party insitution many St Andreans and students have fond memories of the club and in particular the familiar shape of DJ Iain.
He said: “I knew the closure was on the cards and all I can say is the last night was brilliant. It was really, really busy.” Iain, from Arbroath, has been DJing for 35 years and has built up a relationship with the town and people over the years. Despite losing the gig at the Lizard Lounge, he hopes not to have to leave St Andrews completely. “I don’t want to break my ties with the town,” he said. “All I can say right now is keep your eyes and ears to the ground.”
Hotel Ogstons refurbishment will be complete by April 2017 and the spa facilities will be open to the public on a membership basis.
