Successful Fife Youth Arts festival back for 2016

Following the success of last year's one day multi-youth arts festival in Kirkcaldy, young people are preparing to do it all again later this month.

Fife Youth Arts (FYA) team staged Festival 15 last summer and they are currently busy putting together a special programme for this year’s Festival 16 event.

And the organisers hope that this year’s event will be even bigger and better than that of 2015.

They hope that young people from across the Kingdom will come along and get involved in what promises to be a great day out.

Already lined up is a programme full of inspiring events, workshops and games that will allow young people from across the Kingdom the opportunity to explore their creativity over the summer months.

Festival 16 is set to take place at locations around Kirkcaldy on Saturday, July 30.

A spokesman for FYA told the Press: “With over 1000 young people joining us last year, the event has firmly established itself as a true celebration of creativity among young Fifers.”

On the day from 10am to 4pm there will be a whole host of activities taking place, offering something for everyone.

Among them will be free workshops and performances by FYA’s internal and external creative partners including All or Nothing, Scotland’s aerial dance theatre; Creative Digital Lab; Youth Music Theatre Scotland (YMTS); community radio station K107 FM and Caravan Obscura to name a few.

All of the events will take place in locations around the Lang Toun with the five main venues for the day being Kirkcaldy Galleries, the War Memorial Gardens, Adam Smith Theatre, The Arts Hub in The Postings and the Mercat Shopping Centre.

And as part of Festival 16, Fifers are being invited to sing with Scottish Opera.

Fife Sing (Kirkcaldy) aims for everyone to come together and enjoy the passion and power of singing in the Town Square in Kirkcaldy at 3pm on July 30.

Singers are invited to unite to sing Handel’s Hallelujah chorus.

Ahead of the public performance, soloists from Scottish Opera’s emerging artist programme will work with singers in morning workshop sessions.

The experience is open to everyone, whatever their ability.
