Donkey rides and computer games at Kirkcaldy youth festival

Building sandcastles, hanging from ropes, singing songs and riding on a donkey '“ all were part of the Fife Youth Arts Festival 16 event in Kirkcaldy at the weekend.

The massive youth festival was spread out in venues across the town centre from the Kirkcaldy Galleries and Adam Smith Theatre to the Town Square and the Mercat and Postings shopping centres.

The event brought a feast of fun and frolics for young people, including aerial acrobatics, face painting, dance workshops and cake decorating as well as digital workshops, band performances and pop up beaches where people could relax and build sandcastles.

And it all culminated in the Scottish Opera’s Fife Sing Kirkcaldy performance of Handel’s Hallelujah chorus in the town square.

The venture, following on from the successful Festival 15 last year, was organised by Fife Youth Arts, with sponsorship from Kirkcaldy 4 All.

Bill Harvey, manager of Kirkcaldy 4 All said: “It was a wonderful event which brings together youth from all over Fife and we’re lucky to have it staged here. We also had Scottish National Opera here so it’s a really well organised, high end event.

“It was a lovely day and the events looked really nice in the gardens. I was a little disappointed in the size of the crowd – we really need people to come out support events like this, but we’ll have a wash up meeting and see if there are any lessons to be learned and what can be done for future years.”
