Fife weather: Theatres, libraries and museums aim for weekend re-opening

The red alert and severe winter weather saw all doors closed to premises operated by Fife Cultural Trust.

Some shows were cancelled as a result, but the trust is hopeful that they can be back in operation by Saturday.

It operates Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy, Lochgelly Theatre, Rothes Halls in Glenrothes and Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall as well as all libraries and museums.

In an update this afternoon the trust said: ‘‘Over the past 24 hours we have experienced some of the most difficult weather conditions seen in this part of the country in many years.

‘‘This has had a severe impact on our ability to provide services to you, the public. The MET weather forecast has now been downgraded from a Red to Amber warning, meaning we are hopeful that services will resume over the weekend.’’

The trust said while the weather may continue to disrupt plans, it would ‘‘endeavour to make efforts to open facilities to those seeking our services.’’

The statement added: ‘‘We will continue to assess the situation as Friday morning develops and make contingencies as and when required.’’

It hopes to be able to inform the public by 10.00 am Friday of its plans on what can re-open and when.
