Get into gear for a slice of Kirkcaldy Motor Club history

A compilation of some of the high and low points in motorcycle history over the years, the publication features sport photographs – many unseen and from private collections – alongside stories and facts on the various events.

The latest publication covers events dating back from 1922 to recent events, with a distinctly Scottish flavour.

Jake Drummond, club secretary, explained: “Over the years we’ve collected images from event photographers and members of the public and initially planned a small publication covering just the Beveridge Park races. However, such was the volume and interest that it grew to encompass other Scottish events and the riders who raced at them.

“In 2015 ‘Volume One’ was released and became very popular in the racing scene and, encouraged by its success, ‘Volume Two’ was released in a more substantial format, to equal acclaim.”

Covering local events such as the ‘Scottish Road Races for Motorcycles’ from it’s debut in 1948, titled ‘The Kirkcaldy Grand Prix’ to the final event in 1988, as well as off-road racing with the Kirkcaldy Sand Races and Scrambles at Silver Barton, Kilrie and Burntisland, the group hopes that the series will eventually extend to ten volumes.

Hugh Ward, president, said: “The club flourished during the post war years with the Beveridge Park events and continued with our running of the Scottish Championship racing at Knockhill until recently.

‘The Park’ is still close to the hearts of members, riders and spectators, as seen by the response to our ‘Bikes in The Park’ shows in May each year.

“We are grateful for the support given by local businesses and the Fife Free Press, continuing a long relationship with the Press which began in the late 1940s when the late Harold Livingston (of Strachan & Livingston), former owners of the paper, became one of our committee members.”
