In pictures: Adverts for 16 venues in & around Kirkcaldy no longer with us

They all date from 1975 and feature hotels and venues no longer on the map – but, in their heyday, were packed for functions and concerts as well as many family gatherings.

The Clubhouse - also fondly remembered as the Dutch Mill – was a hugely popular landmark in Kirkcaldy. It sat across the road from the train station, and the land is now a supermarket.

Anthony’s Hotel has become a care home and the Belvedere – home of many great dinner dances - is, sadly, boarded up.

Other names have also disappeared from our town landscape.

Who remembers the Circulation bistrotheque in the Olympia Arcade – or the Old Worlde Inn?

And down at the harbour, who recalls Joe’s Diner which opened in ‘75?

Or the Cuinzie Neuk which was a fabulous live venue in Kinghorn?

The adverts also shine a light on the entertainments’ scene in Kirkcaldy some 40 years ago.

At the Forum in Glenrothes, you could see Billy Connolly for just £4.50 a ticket, while the ABC Cinema in Kirkcaldy was screening the ‘X’ certificate Emmanuelle!
