New home for Dysart band

The deal benefits both parties which have worked hard building a good relationship since the church’s minister joined the band last year.

Following a Christmas concert, the band had the chance to perform its Scottish Championship test piece during a church service in front of 102 people, as well as leading the music for the service.

Rev. Ron Rye, minister of the church said: “Since I came to Kirkcaldy a little over a year ago, it has been an ambition of our church to see our doors open and our building starting to benefit the community. We have had some successful partnerships already, but this new venture sees our work taken to a whole new level.”

Fiona Dick, band chairman, said: “We have been working hard over the last few years to build our player base and improve our standing within the wider Scottish banding community as well as the local community.

“This move to rehearse at Whyte’s Causeway Baptist Church enables us to have a more accessible venue which suits the specific needs of a brass band. It’s an exciting move and signifies the start of another chapter in our growth and development.”

Formed in 1880, the band has enjoyed a successful history and was associated with the Randolph, Frances and Lady Blanche collieries, competing regularly until 1969. It returned to competition in 2004 and has gone from strength to strength since.

The band will be holding a fundraising event in the Mercat on Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm.
