Ready, steady '“ into battle at Falkland Palace!

For battle re-enactment society the Sealed Knot will be at the palace putting on a range of displays of 17th century warfare for visitors.

With parades, musketry displays, 17th century foot drills and a skirmish battle this will be an action-packed weekend for visitors of all ages.

Not only will society members be re-enacting battles, they will also be living like their counterparts from 400 years ago as they set up an authentic camp in the palace’s orchard.

Elsewhere in the palace grounds there will be a range of children’s activities to give youngsters a taste of what life was like hundreds of years ago – all in the impressive historic Falkland Palace grounds, with its rich heritage and links to royalty.

Event organiser Naomi Webster urged: “Come join us for an exciting insight into how soldiers lived while preparing for battle in the living history camp, followed by battle re-enactments, marches and musket demonstrations.”

The event runs on Saturday and Sunday (September 24 and 25) from 11.00am until 5.00pm.

Falkland Palace was a favourite palace of Mary, Queen of Scots, as the Renaissance design reminded her of the chateaux she lived in as a child.

The palace and its grounds, including the UK’s first tennis court are in the care of the National Trust for Scotland and are open to the public year-round.
