A weekend full of fun in Leven
The final weekend of May looks set to be one of the busiest for a while in Leven, as local groups offer a number of organised events to enjoy.
Kicking the summer off in style, there are four big events taking place on Sunday, May 29, starting at 10am and running all the way through to 8pm. And with a bank holiday scheduled for May 30, there’s no need to worry about work!
Starting at 10am, volunteers are being asked to join the local Scottish Fire and Rescue Service officers down at Burnmill Industrial Estate for a special clean up operation around the Fife Heritage Railway grounds.
East Fife Youth Academy is already on board, and Stevie Thomson, station manager at Methil, is hoping to repeat the success of the first clean up at Methil Brae in 2014.
A buffet lunch will also be provided for those taking part. All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Contact Methil Fire Station on 01333 424719 for more information.
Then, at 11am Fife Heritage Railway will be opening the doors to its yard for the second of a series of summer open days. Find out all about the work being done to restore historical engines, volunteering opportunities, and enjoy a ride on the famous River Eden.
And at 12pm, two big events kick off – Letham Glen Family Fun Day, organised by Fife College students, and Pre-T Prom Fest.
At Letham Glen, locals of all ages can enjoy lots of fun activities until 3pm, from bouncy castle and facepainting to entertainment from Methilhill Pipe Band and highland dancers. There will also be refreshments, crafts and a tombola.
And running until 8pm on Leven Promenade, Promfest, organised by Leven Community Council, is back and better than ever. There will be a host of local talent on offer, with craft stalls, bar and other refreshments. Tickets, priced at £10, are available through the LCC Facebook site.
The fun doesn’t end with Leven either, with more events taking place across the wider Levenmouth and East Neuk area too. In Buckhaven, CLEAR environmental group hosts its second Open Day of the season, welcoming visitors to the Growing Space on Omar Crescent for fun and games. This runs from 12pm to 2.30pm. And along in the Neuk, the second weekend of the East Neuk Open Studios kicks off, with venues right along the coast from Largo to Crail. See www.eastneukopenstudios.org
