An administrative glitch meant that Cupar appeared to miss out on the overall Town Category of the awards.

And this week Mary Law, Cupar in Bloom’s chairman, was delighted to receive the award from Liz Stewart, the Royal Horticulatural Society’s Scotland manager, at Elmwood College.
Cupar already has a gold medal in the category from last year’s awards, but the latest recognition was the icing on the cake for Mrs Law.
“My enthusiastic team are over the moon with the newly disclosed news that we were the winner of the town category,” she said.

The latest presentation took place at a training event for community groups taking part in the 2016 Beautiful Scotland campaign.
Keith Jackson and Bill Ronald, Britain in Bloom judges, were also present to enjoy the celebrations with members of the Cupar in Bloom team.
Mr Jackson, also parks and community events officer at Fife Council, said: “Cupar is a wonderful example of all that’s best about Britain in Bloom and the amazing people who roll up their sleeves to make change happen.

“Britain in Bloom brings together communities, improves our environment and fosters civic pride, but it also helps to inspire creativity, spreads joy and laughter and invigorates friendships.”
Keep Scotland Beautiful is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Beautiful Scotland this year and is hosting three workshops across Scotland to support groups in their quest for gold in the annual competition.
Across the UK around 1600 groups enter the competition and from the initial entries, a selection of winners are nominated to represent their country in the RHS Britain in Bloom UK final the following year.
